Special Collections
The international archival holdings form a group of archival material, primarily single items, which have been acquired as parts of book collections e.g. the Eric White collection, or have been found in individual books e.g. Thomas Hardy letter tipped into a volume of his work, or by donations of single items. There are larger collections such as the Collection of theatrical scene and costume design.
The holdings includes examples of 15th illuminated manuscript leaves, an early 16th century Book of Hours Use of Amiens, the 1400 manuscript of the works of Franciscus de Mayronis, letters and other documents relating to Arctic exploration, and several early modern manuscripts from the collection of Edgar Osborne. The Osborne Collection includes an early dramatic manuscript with no title, date or named author of which an earlier version is held at Arbury Hall, Warwickshire.
