Canadian poet born in Hockering, Norfolk County, England in 1879. Moved to Canada at the age of four with her parents who settled at Coe Hill, Hastings County, Ontario. Moved to Carrying Place, Prince Edward County in 1914. Received Normal School training in Winnipeg, Manitoba, taught public school in Manitoba and Ontario for seven years, then did office work in Toronto. Wrote short stories and articles as well as poems which were widely published in Canadian and U.S. periodicals; numerous anthologies contain her poems. Her published books are: Over the hills of home (1918), A breath of the woods (1926), The hero songs of Canada (1927), The blossom trail (1932), Still waters (1933) and Lyrics and sonnets (1939). Most well known for her poem of The Great War, Over the hills of home, which was widely published and quoted. Member of the Canadian Literature Club, the Canadian Women's Press Club and the Canadian Author's Association.
