Canadian artist and curator Gordon Snyder was born in Edmonton, Alberta, March 11, 1951. Studied at the University of Alberta, Alberta College of Art, Emma Lake Art Workshops and the University of Lethbridge. Owner/director/manager of Canadian Art Galleries, Calgary, (1977-1979), Glenmore Gallery, Toronto, (1979-1980), and Snyder Hedlin Fine Art Consultants (1981-1986). Currently employed at the Burnaby Art Gallery, Burnaby, British Columbia. Long time friend of Illingworth Kerr; acted as his representative and curated two major exhibitions of Kerr's work including Harvest of the Spirit - Illingworth Kerr Retrospective at the Edmonton Art Gallery in 1985 which travelled to nine galleries across Canada. Inherited Kerr's slide collection.
Collection consists of manuscripts of Illingworth Kerr's autobiography Paint and circumstances including research material; published works illustrated by I. Kerr; Christmas cards by I. Kerr; exhibition catalogues of I. Kerr's work written by G. Snyder; photographs and slides of I. Kerr's art; photographs of landscapes, animals, etc. used as studies for I. Kerr's paintings; Kerr family photographs; works on I. Kerr; slides of John Snow's art; articles and other works by G. Snyder; clippings, photographs, slides, exhibition catalogues and brochures relating to other artists including R.F.M. McInnis, Kathryn Youngs, Louis de Niverville, Jack Shadbolt and Ken Christopher; and miscellaneous.
Donated by Gordon Snyder in 1999, 2001 and 2004.
