Canadian author Mordecai Richler was born in Montreal, Quebec, on January 27, 1931. Died in Montreal on July 3, 2001. Biographical information available in The Oxford companion to Canadian literature, 2nd ed., p. 999-1002.
Fonds consists of correspondence; manuscripts of novels, short stories, articles, essays, reviews, screenplays, and radio and television plays; published works; interviews; sound recordings and moving images; and miscellaneous materials. Fonds also includes two small appendices. MsC 285, consists of newspaper clippings and magazine articles relating to M. Richler's book Oh Canada! Oh Québec! Requiem for a divided country and copy of September 23, 1991 New Yorker with M. Richler's article on Québec. Donated by Liana Van der Bellen and filed with Acc 680/00.11 (Box 47). MsC 319 consists of 2 black and white photographs of M. Richler and his first wife, Cathy Boudreau, on their wedding day, August 28, 1954, alone and with their wedding guests. Donated by Arthur MacKenzie Peers and filed with Acc 582/95.20 (Box 153). A copy of the September 13, 1998, draft of the Barney's version filmscript was submitted by Michael Levine, M. Richler's solicitor, after an office cleanout, October 28, 2009. Filed with Acc 680/00.11 (25.3). A copy of the December 4, 2008, version of the Barney's version filmscript by Michael Konyves and Richard J. Lewis, used for the film produced in 2010, was also submitted by Michael Levine, January 14, 2010. Filed with Acc 680/00.11 (25.6). MsC 332 consists of a poster for Duddy (musical) at Citadel Theatre, Edmonton, Alberta; filed in map cabinet 31.2.
