Canadian physicist born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1925. After serving in the Canadian Navy (RCNVR), studied math and physics at the University of Toronto, obtaining a B.A. in 1949, followed by an M.A. (1952) and a Ph.D. (1956) in physics. In 1949-1950, he established and ran a magnetic observatory for the Dominion Observatory and a cosmic ray observatory for the National Research Council, in Resolute Bay, N.W.T. Worked for a brief time (1956-1957) at DuPont of Canada in Kingston, Ontario. Studied radio astronomy at Jordan Bank, University of Manchester, U.K. (1957-1959). Returned to Canada in 1959 to help establish the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory near Penticton, B.C., which he ran from 1963-1980, and where he continued as a guest worker from 1980-2007.
Consists of diary (July 15, 1949-September 21, 1950) written in Resolute Bay, and Report on the Resolute Bay Magnetic Observatory, August 1949-September 1950, submitted to the Dominion Astronomer, September 9, 1950.
